The Lives of the Kings and Queens of England, Revised and Updated
by Antonia Fraser
As someone who really had no formal schooling in the lives of the kings and queens of England this was a great starter book.
From William the Conqueror and the Norman invasion all the way up to the current Queen Elizabeth; the stories are interesting, concise, at times funny, and very informative.
